The Meuse-Argonne Offensive ran 47 days, from September 26, 1918 until the Armistice on November 11, and engaged about 1.2 million American troops of the American Expeditionary Forces. It cost more than 26,000 American lives, making it the deadliest battle in U.S. history, and it helped force Germany to the armistice table. No American battle before or since has committed as many U.S. troops.
