Welcome to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, headquarters for the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence and home of the U.S. Army Field Artillery, the U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery, and the U.S. Marine Corps Artillery. Fort Sill also serves as one of the four locations for Army Basic Combat Training.

Fort Sill, located in Comanche County, Oklahoma, is rich in history. This post is a National Historic Landmark and is the only remaining active fort built during the Indian Wars. Troops from the 10th Cavalry, a unit of African-American “Buffalo Soldiers,” built many of the stone buildings still found on Fort Sill.

The base supports a population of roughly 53,000 people, including 20,000 active-duty and civilian personnel and nearly 33,000 family members. Fort Sill is home to the Fort Sill National Historic Landmark and Museum. Other sites to visit near Fort Sill include Geronimo’s Grave Site, The Field Artillery Museum, and Lawton Speedway.

If you’re PSCing to Fort Sill or just visiting, the following information can help make your travel easy.

Getting to Fort Sill From Nearby Cities

Lawton Municipal Airport is the closest airport to Fort Sill at 5 miles away, but ticket prices are higher and are typically difficult to get as it only allows service from Dallas on a commuter plane.

Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City is about 85 miles away, and Dalla/Fort Worth International Airport is about 185 miles away.

  • Cache, OK: 5 minutes

Gates & Hours of Operation

Fort Sill has a few different gates to make access easy for living off-post.

If you are visiting, you must stop by the Fort Sill Welcome Center, located at 6701 Sheridan Road, Fort Sill, OK 73503, or use the Visitor Pre-Registration System here to obtain a pass.

  • Bently (main) Gate: 24/7
  • Key Gate West: 24/7
  • Scott Gate: 0500-1900 M-F; 0600-1400 Saturday
  • Apache Gate: 0500-1900 M-F; 0600-1400 Saturday
  • 52 Street Gate: CLOSED
  • Key Gate East: 0500-1300 M-F

New Arrivals & In-Processing

Incoming soldiers are required to report to the Fort Sill Welcome Center with a copy of their DA Form 31 and PCS orders. This is when incoming soldiers will receive the next steps for in-processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I live on Fort Sill without children?

Single soldiers with no children are not authorized to live on post. However, married soldiers with no children are permitted to live in privatized family housing managed by Corvias Military Living.

Can I live on Fort Sill if I'm not married?

Single soldiers E5 and below are required to live in the barracks, while single soldiers E6 and above are permitted to live off-post.

What are the PT hours for Fort Sill?

Typical PT hours at Fort Sill are Monday through Friday, 06:30-07:30.

Can I use coupons at the commissary?

Yes, the Fort Sill Commissary allows paper manufacturer coupons as well as digital coupons through the Commissary Rewards Card.

NOTE: The commissary does not accept in-house coupons or promotions from commercial stores.

Is Fort Sill hands-free?

Yes. The use of a hand-held device is strictly prohibited on Fort Sill. You are required to use a Bluetooth or hands-free accessory or pull the vehicle over to the side of the road and come to a complete stop before using a hand-held device.
