Frequently Asked Questions
Can I live on Redstone Arsenal without children?
Yes. Having children is not a requirement for living in Redstone Arsenal’s privatized housing. Redstone Family Housing is open to active-duty service members and, depending on availability and eligibility, unaccompanied military personnel, Reservists, National Guard members, military retirees, federal and DoD employees, and certain contractors.
Active-duty service members receive priority for on-post housing regardless of rank, so contact the housing office before your move to confirm current eligibility and availability.
Can I live on Redstone Arsenal if I'm not married?
Possibly. Redstone is a little different from installations that rely primarily on traditional barracks for unaccompanied personnel because unaccompanied military members are among the groups eligible to apply for Redstone Family Housing.
Housing availability and priority still apply, so unmarried service members should contact the Housing Services Office or Redstone Family Housing before arrival to determine which options are available for their specific situation.
What are the PT hours for Redstone Arsenal?
There is no single installation-wide PT schedule that applies to everyone at Redstone Arsenal. Physical training schedules depend on the service member’s command, organization, duty assignment, and leadership, so newcomers should check with their sponsor or gaining unit for reporting and PT requirements.
For individual workouts, Redstone also has MWR fitness facilities, including the COL Stephen K. Scott Fitness Center and Pagano Gym, with facility-specific operating hours and some 24/7 access options.
Can I use coupons at the commissary?
Yes. The Redstone Arsenal Commissary accepts most manufacturer coupons as long as they meet the terms and conditions printed on the coupon. Shoppers can also use Commissary Rewards Card digital coupons, but paper and digital coupons cannot be stacked on the same item.
The commissary also offers CLICK2GO curbside ordering, and Rewards Card digital coupons can be applied to eligible CLICK2GO purchases.
Is Redstone Arsenal hands-free?
Yes. Hand-held cell phone use and text messaging while driving are prohibited on Redstone Arsenal, in accordance with DoD driving-safety requirements. Drivers should use an approved hands-free method if they need to make or receive a call while operating a vehicle and should avoid handling a phone while the vehicle is in motion.
Can my pet live on Redstone Arsenal?
Yes. Redstone Family Housing is pet-friendly and allows up to two pets per home, although breed restrictions and pet fees apply. Families moving with pets should review the current housing pet policy before signing a lease, particularly if they have a large dog, a commonly restricted breed, or multiple animals.
What mailing address should I use before I arrive?
Unlike some installations with a designated dormitory Postal Service Center or published General Delivery address for incoming personnel, Redstone Arsenal’s current newcomer guidance does not publish one universal temporary mailing address for all incoming personnel.
Before forwarding mail or shipping important items, contact your sponsor or gaining organization to determine the correct mailing procedure for your assignment.
Families moving into Redstone Family Housing should also wait until their housing address is confirmed before changing their permanent mailing address.
