During the 1950 Battle of Chosin Reservoir, surrounded Marines radioed for 60mm mortar rounds using codename 'Tootsie Roll.' When actual frozen candies arrived instead of ammunition, Marines discovered they could soften them in their mouths and use them as putty to seal cracked vehicle fuel lines. The re-frozen candy provided permanent seals, allowing Marines to drive to safety during this desperate Korean War battle. This incredible story demonstrates military ingenuity and how an unexpected supply drop became a lifesaving tool.
